The Importance of Wellbeing in the Veterinary Community

Over the past several years, numerous publications, conferences and veterinary organizations have shined a spotlight on the state of wellbeing in veterinary medicine. As your membership organization, it is both our responsibility and our desire to provide you with access to resources and support that can help you, as individuals and professionals in the veterinary community, thrive.

While wellbeing is an individually experienced state, the responsibility to support you professionally is shared. The veterinary community, including private practices, universities and professional organizations, must promote and reinforce the behaviors that uphold your resilience, compassion, sense of inclusion and engagement in the work you do to improve the lives of animals and people globally.

Our vision is to continue to identify tools, training and resources that prompt us all to self-reflect, grow our understanding of the challenges, perspectives and barriers people may experience and be open to the idea of thinking about things differently.

It is also a shared responsibility to encourage behaviors that build a strong sense of community; one that feels inclusive and welcoming for all.

While the ACVIM is driven to assist, we recognize that we are not yet experts in these areas. However, we can connect you with resources and tools that are already available. Our vision is to continue to identify tools, training and resources that prompt us all to self-reflect, grow our understanding of the challenges, perspectives and barriers people may experience and be open to the idea of thinking about things differently.

We hope to learn alongside you so the ACVIM can better understand, support and encourage you to spark positive change within our community so all can experience a desirable state of wellbeing.
