Mentors needed for new ACVIM Mentorship Program launching March 2024

Nov 14, 2023, 00:00 AM by The ACVIM

Research has consistently shown that early-career veterinary professionals have the highest levels of stress and lowest levels of wellbeing within the profession. Supporting this population of veterinarians is key to creating a healthier profession.

The ACVIM is excited to announce our upcoming collaboration with MentorVet, an entity that creates evidence-based programs to empower individuals to thrive within veterinary medicine. A mentorship program for new Diplomates, Sponsored by Chewy Health, is currently in development and will be piloted starting in March 2024. We are currently seeking mentors interested in being paired with mentees for the inaugural ACVIM program.

What will mentors do?

Your role will be to provide virtual support and mentorship. After being paired up with your mentee, you can expect to spend around one hour a month on average connecting with your mentee during the 6-month program.

How do I get involved?

To sign up to become a mentor in the ACVIM Mentorship pilot program, please fill out the application here. If MentorVet thinks this opportunity is a good fit for you, they will contact you to schedule a group orientation or mentor screening. After you complete your orientation, you will complete self-paced curriculum, then receive access to the mentor platform, where you will be paired up with a mentee.

Additionally, MentorVet is offering free mentor training that focuses on supporting the mental and emotional health of veterinarians. This training has been RACE-approved for 5 hours of CE credits!

What you will learn at the MentorVet Mentor Training:

  • Emotional Support Techniques
  • Professional Skills for Early Career Success
  • Suicide Intervention Skills
  • Mentorship Tips
Complete the application now to get started! Please send questions to info@mentorvet.net.
