2018 ACVIM Forum

Highlights & Recap

The 2018 ACVIM Forum was a success! More than 3,649 people attended this year’s ACVIM Forum in Seattle, Washington. Veterinary specialists, general practitioners, students and veterinary technicians from around the world came together to experience exceptional education, world-class speakers, cutting-edge products, practical tools and resources, and powerful networking – all to assist them as they continue to transform veterinary specialty medicine.

The Specialty Symposium on Wednesday gave ACVIM Diplomates and candidate’s opportunities to learn, socialize, and meet with colleagues from their specialties. Congratulations to the 133 new Diplomates who were recognized and received certificates.

Keynote Address

Nationally renowned neuroscientist, Dr. John Medina presented on how to be productive in learning and teaching, utilizing a neuroscientific perspective to demonstrate practical ways to impart complex information to learners at any stage of life in his Keynote Address, sponsored by Hill's Pet Nutrition.


ACVIM Membership Luncheon and Awards Ceremony 

Diplomates had a chance to socialize and reconnect at the ACVIM Membership Luncheon and Awards Ceremony on Friday. Dr. Suzi White provided an update on ACVIM highlights and activities and then attendees were treated to the awards ceremony.

During the luncheon, there was a special remembrance and tribute to the late Dr. Lee Pyle and his wife, Inge, who played an instrumental role in the establishment and early management of the ACVIM.  The ACVIM announced the renaming of the ACVIM Distinguished Service Award to the ACVIM Dr. Lee and Inge Pyle Service Award in honor of their dedication to the ACVIM.


The Robert W. Kirk Award for Professional Excellence is presented in recognition of outstanding achievements and dedicated service to the veterinary profession and the ACVIM Lee & Inge Pyle Service Award recognizes outstanding and dedicated service by a Diplomate as a College volunteer.

Congratulations to our 2018 Dr. Lee and Inge Pyle Service Award winner Guy Pidgeon, DVM, DACVIM (SAIM).

Congratulations to our 2018 Robert W. Kirk Award winner Mark Peterson, DVM, DACVIM (SAIM).


Solutions Center (exhibit hall)

The Solutions Center was the place to be at this year's conference, offering an abundance of things to see, do and experience. 150 industry partners filled the Solutions Center with the latest veterinary products, services and technologies. 

Attendees extended their learning into the Solutions Center by participating in fast-paced Knowledge Corner sessions that were focused on the latest cutting-edge research in the veterinary field. Sessions were sponsored by ELIAS Animal Health, Karl Storz - Endoskope, PRN Pharmacal, Universal Imaging and VetDC.

The Wine and Cheese Happy Hour sponsored by Purina provided a great opportunity to view research abstract ePosters onDemand in the Poster Park as well as visit with conference exhibitors. Attendees enjoyed wine, cheese and networking with industry experts and colleagues.
