Jul 19, 2023, 00:00 AM by The ACVIM

If you are a ACVIM Candidate interested in relocating to a new Residency Training Program because you are in an unsafe situation in your current program due to its location or other factors, we are here to help you navigate that transition. The steps below are outlined to clarify the process.

  1. Discuss potentially needing to relocate programs with your mentor if you are comfortable doing so. You can also reach out to your specialty ombudsperson and/or Finn Ruehrdanz, Senior Certification & Accreditation Specialist, for support in starting the conversation. Ombudspersons can be contacted at the email addresses below:
    1. CardiologyOmbuds@ACVIM.org
    2. LAIMOmbuds@ACVIM.org
    3. NeurologyOmbuds@ACVIM.org
    4. NutritionOmbuds@ACVIM.org
    5. OncologyOmbuds@ACVIM.org
    6. SAIMOmbuds@ACVIM.org
  2. Identify a new mentor. Your mentor, your specialty ombuds, and Finn Ruehrdanz are all resources in helping you identify a new mentor.
  3. Follow the detailed program relocation steps outlined here

The ACVIM Certification & Accreditation team are prepared to expedite relocations for anyone in unsafe situations. Please reach out to Finn at Finn@ACVIM.org if you have any questions or would like to discuss your options.
