Jan 17, 2023, 09:24 AM by Dr. Jörg Steiner

Message from the president

Dear Colleagues and Friends,

Happy New Year! It is my honor to step into the role of President of the ACVIM Board of Regents in 2023. Before diving into a preview of our plans for the year ahead, I would like to start by thanking those Board members whose terms are ending and introducing new Board members starting their terms this year.

TITLE CHANGES/TERMS ENDING

  • Dr. Jane Sykes is now stepping into the role of our BOR Chair.
  • Dr. Harold McKenzie will serve as the Immediate Past-Chair.
  • Dr. Allen Roussell, Dr. Ruthanne Chun, Dr. Maryanne Murphy, Dr. Phoebe Smith and Dr. Laura Garrett are leaving the Board as their terms have come to an end.

Thank you to all past and present Board members for your selfless service and dedication to keeping our ACVIM relevant for the profession and the clients we serve!

NEW BOARD MEMBERS

  • Dr. Sarah Gillings, ACVIM President-Elect
  • Dr. Glenna Mauldin, Nutrition Specialty President
  • Dr. Chad Johannes, Oncology Specialty President
  • Dr. Bill Tyrrell, Treasurer

Welcome! We are excited to have them join the Board! As always, you are welcome to reach out to any if you have any suggestions or concerns.

I would also like to take a moment to welcome our new CEO, Shannon Carter, as she steps into the role this year following Dr. Linda Fineman’s retirement. Shannon joined the ACVIM as Chief Strategy Officer in 2020, bringing with her more than 20 years of experience in association leadership, adult education, and certification. We are very fortunate to have her as the leader of the ACVIM staff team and I look forward to working together to advance our organization. I encourage you to also read her message in this newsletter for a glimpse of her goals and vision for the future.

THE YEAR AHEAD

As you may know, 2023 marks 50 years since the ACVIM was officially recognized as a specialty organization by the AVMA in 1973. In addition to a special 50th anniversary logo, we will be commemorating this milestone in various ways throughout the year and encourage you to participate in the celebration.

This year also marks the 40th year of the ACVIM Forum, which was first held in 1983. This year, we will be returning to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania: the city where the papers establishing the ACVIM as a recognized specialty organization were signed. We hope that you will save the date and plan to join us in June for this special anniversary conference.

We have several Town Halls scheduled to take place throughout the year as well. These virtual meetings are wonderful opportunities to listen in and share your opinions on various issues and topics within the organization. You can review the schedule to save the dates and keep an eye on your email for more information as the dates draw closer.

In closing, 2023 will be a milestone year for our college, and as we reflect on the past, we will also be mindful of future priorities, strategies, and progress. I look forward to sharing that progress with you throughout the year and am truly honored to represent your interests as ACVIM Diplomates.

    Sincerely,

Jörg Steiner, med.vet., Dr.med.vet., PhD, DACVIM (SAIM), DECVIM-CA, AGAF
    ACVIM President
