ACVIM will reach out regarding room assignments. Reservation information will be emailed to all registered attendees once the details have been confirmed. 

Complimentary transportation will be provided between the Staybridge Suites OSU Medical Center and the College of Veterinary Medicine.  Shuttle schedule will be announced prior to the beginning of the course.

**Please note – if you are not staying at the Staybridge Suites OSU Medical Center, then breakfast and transportation will be on your own. There is no on campus parking available if you chose to drive your own vehicle.

Teresa Burns, DVM, PhD, DACVIM (LAIM)
Associate Professor, The Ohio State University

Dr. Burns received her B.S. and DVM degrees from Iowa State University, and she completed her internship (Equine Field Service), residency (Equine Internal Medicine), and PhD training at The Ohio State University's College of Veterinary Medicine.  She is an equine internal medicine specialist, board-certified by the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine (Large Animal Internal Medicine), and she is currently an Associate Professor of Equine Internal Medicine and the Bud and Marilyn Jenne Professor of Equine Clinical Sciences and Research in the Department of Veterinary Clinical Sciences at the OSU College of Veterinary Medicine.  Her clinical and research interests include equine insulin dysregulation, endocrinopathic laminitis, and equine neonatology.

Dr. Hostnik is a Clinical Associate Professor of Equine Medicine at The Ohio State University. Dr. Hostnik graduated from Cornell University College of Veterinary Medicine in 2012. Following graduation, she completed an internship at Rhinebeck Equine from 2012-2013. Dr. Hostnik subsequently joined Ohio State to complete a residency in Large Animal Internal Medicine, which she finished in 2016. After her residency, Dr. Hostnik accepted a faculty position at Ohio State, where she continues to practice equine internal medicine. Her professional interests include endocrinology in adult horses and foals and clinical teaching of residents and house officers.

Craig Lesser

Craig Lesser, DVM, CF graduated from Colorado State University College of Veterinary Medicine in 2015, days after passing his AFA certified farrier exam.  After graduation Dr. Lesser completed an internship at Anoka Equine, before moving to Lexington KY to complete a podiatry fellowship at Rood and Riddle Equine Hospital where he has continued on and is now a shareholder. Dr. Lesser’s practice consists of treating diseases of the distal limb with focus on laminitis, angular deformities in young horses, rehabilitation of sport horses, and infectious processes of the hoof. 

Outside of his daily practice Dr. Lesser is active with professional organizations and facilitates the Opportunity in Equine Practice Seminar over labor day weekend every year for third year veterinary students.  He also enjoys spending time on his farm with his wife Michelle.  

 

Anne Metzler

Professor and Section Head of Comparative Ophthalmology, The Ohio State University

Dr. Metzler is a 1995 graduate of The Ohio State College of Veterinary Medicine (CVM) and joined the OSU Veterinary Clinical Sciences faculty after completing her residency training, M.S. degree and board certification at the OSU CVM in 2000. Dr. Metzler recently concluded her term as the President of the American College of Veterinary Ophthalmologists and member of the Board of Regents from 2018-2023. She also served as Chair of the ACVO Examination Committee and served 3 years on the ACVO Credentials Committee. Dr. Metzler has been Head of the Comparative Ophthalmology Service since 2007 and serves as a member of the CVM Promotion and Tenure Committee. She recently served as the Vice-Chair of Faculty Success and Chair of the Faculty Mentoring Committee and previously as Secretary of the CVM Faculty Council. She participated in the Big Ten Academic Alliance Academic Leadership Program and The OSU President and Provost’s Leadership Institute. She enjoys teaching in all four years of the DVM curriculum as well as graduate and residency training. She was the recipient of the Class of 2020 Excellence in Teaching Award and recognized on the 2022-2023 and 2020-2021 College of Veterinary Medicine Professional Program Teaching Honor Roll. Dr. Metzler’s clinical and research interests include treatment of equine glaucoma, infectious corneal disease in dogs and horses and canine cataract surgery. In addition to ophthalmology, she enjoys marathons and ultrarunning, cooking and gardening. 

Jaylyn Rhinehart

Jaylyn Rhinehart is currently an Associate Professor of Cardiology and Interventional Medicine at The Ohio State University Veterinary Medical Center. Dr. Rhinehart is originally from rural southern Indiana. She received her DVM from Purdue University and then completed a rotating internship in small animal surgery and medicine at the University of Florida. She completed her residency and masters in cardiology at The Ohio State University and became a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine-Cardiology in 2016.

Katy Timko

Assistant Professor, The Ohio State University

Dr. Timko is an Assistant Professor at The Ohio State University College of Veterinary Medicine in the Equine Field Service department. She completed her veterinary school education at The Ohio State University and then pursued an equine rotating internship at Mid-Atlantic Equine Medical Center in New Jersey. She then returned to The Ohio State University to complete an equine internal medicine residency program and concurrent master's degree program. Dr. Timko's research interests include equine endocrinopathies and laminitis. 

Ramiro Toribio

Ramiro Toribio, DVM, MS, PhD, DACVIM (LAIM)
Professor, The Ohio State University

Dr. Toribio is originally from Panama, received his veterinary degree from the Universidad Nacional de Rio Cuarto, Argentina, MS in Costa Rica and Sweden, and did his residency and PhD at The Ohio State University. He is boarded by ACVIM-LA, has a PhD in Experimental Medicine/Molecular Endocrinology, is a Professor of Equine Internal Medicine, and is the Section Chief of Equine Medicine/Equine Field Service at the College of Veterinary Medicine of The Ohio State University. Dr. Toribio has a extensive number of publications, directs research programs in equine and comparative endocrinology, equine neonatology, and has trained interns, residents, MS, PhD, and Post-Docs from the US and abroad.

Maxey Wellman

Dr. Wellman received her DVM degree from The Ohio State University, completed an internship at Cornell University, and received her MS from the University of Illinois. She completed a clinical pathology residency and PhD from The Ohio State University, where she is a Professor in the Department of Veterinary Biosciences and Section Head of the Clinical Pathology Laboratories in the Veterinary Medical Center. She has served as President of the ACVP and President of the ASVCP, and currently is the Cytology/Surgical Pathology Section Editor for Veterinary Clinical Pathology and a member of the AVMA, ACVP, and ASVCP. She has earned several teaching awards including the Carl Norden-Pfizer Distinguished Veterinary Teacher Award, the Dean’s Creativity in Teaching Award, the Fox Family Teaching Excellence Award, and the ASVCP Lifetime Achievement Award.  She has conducted numerous cytology workshops and continuing education sessions on hematology and cytology, including workshops on digital cytology.
