The American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine is pleased to announce advanced education courses focusing on hands-on laboratories, lectures, case presentations and discussions.
These high-level courses are designed specifically and offered exclusively for 1) ACVIM Diplomates in good standing, and 2) ACVIM Candidates actively pursuing Board certification (active pursuit is defined as progress towards certification such as participation in a residency program, preparing case reports, writing Board examinations, etc., during the past three years). Please note that seating is limited for ACVIM Candidates who meet these requirements.
ACVIM ENDOCRINOLOGY

This 20-hour case-based course will cover hot and/or controversial topics in clinical small animal endocrinology, including canine and feline adrenal and thyroid diseases, diabetes mellitus and calcium disorders. Each of the five 4-hour sessions will cover nine 15-minute short lectures, with the last hour of each session dedicated to interaction and discussion among presenters and attendees.

ACVIM ADVANCED RESPIRATORY DIAGNOSTICS

This 17-hour hands-on laboratory and lecture course will focus on bronchoscopy, including operation of the scope and advanced accessories, interpretation of structural and functional abnormalities, and generation of standardized reports. Thoracic imaging (radiography, CT, and ultrasound) as well as tracheal stent placement will be presented. The maximum number of participants for this course is 30.

ACVIM URETHRAL STENTING

This four-hour course will introduce participants to the interventional radiology equipment and techniques necessary to perform urethral stenting in dogs. The course will begin with a one-hour lecture on indications, proper patient selection, medical management, stent sizing, stent placement techniques, and follow-up care in patients. Case examples will be used to generate discussion. A three-hour, hands-on laboratory will follow in which participants will practice stent sizing, stent reconstraining, repositioning and deployment using video and cadavers under fluoroscopic guidance. Following completion of the course, attendees will feel confident with the procedure and use of the stents. This course is limited to 30 participants.

ACVIM EQUINE CARDIOLOGY
January 14 - 16, 2011

(Following the ACVIM Large Animal Internal Medicine Specialty Exam)
This 20-hour, hands-on laboratory and lecture course will give participants significant hands-on experience with ECG, echocardiograms, and evaluation of the exercising horse. Case discussions and lecture of congenital heart disease, pericardial disease and infectious endocarditis, degenerative valve disease, arrhythmias, and cardiac medications will also be covered. The maximum number of participants for this course is 36, with a ratio of six participants per instructor.
